Hi!!! my name is George and I  just recently moved down here from California about six moths ago. I am wondering if there is a Filipino community around my area of Grand Prairie TX.

10/24 I am Marichelle Henson-Quiambao.  I am 31 Years old, born on June 23, 1971. I am trying to locate my mother who left me behind when I was just 7 days old.  My dad (Bong) told me that she married an American and migrated to Texas.  Can You please help me locate her?  My dad also told me that she used to call me simply "baby" for she wasn't able to name me before she left.  I've been trying to find her since my teenage years but to no avail.

Please help me. I'm running out of time. I have terminal cancer and before I go I need to see her.  All I know about her is that she is FLORDELIZA TABURAZA OR TABUROZA. I really don't know her exact name for my dad refuses to talk about her.  She is a cebuana, that is according to my birth certificate.  She's in her fifties now Thank you for finding time to read this, You can Email me at sunen_quiambao@yahoo.com or send a snail mail at this address :#1 Concepcion Drive, Citicenter Subd., 2009, Pandan, Angeles City, Philippines or call me at this #011 63916 5114748.
With much gratitude, MARICHELLE "BABY" HENSON-QUIAMBAO

Youth Basketball Training, Anyone?

Since we know that basketball is the number one sports of us Filipinos. I was thinking of  a basketball program (clinic) where kids will be taught how to play basketball at the same time build some character, camaraderie and attitude through sports. My idea is kids from 8 to 15 year old clinic and the same time basketball competition. An adult basketball will be incorporated along the way. I am willing to spend my time to build and help the program to succeed. I need volunteers and sponsors to make the program work. DO YOU KNOW ANYBODY WHO CAN HELP ME OUT? The program will usually start at the end of high school basketball season. (first week of march)

I think this will benefit a lot of kids here and at the same time keep the Filipino community together. I need parents who loves the sport and committed in watching there kids grow and develop as good FIL-AM citizens. I have seen religious, senior citizens and clubs but none for sports. If only all this group can come together and be as one, I think the filipino community will have a great contribution to texas. The success will definitely come from the full support of their parents. If you know anybody who can help, please email me ASAP. Thank you very much - Aries, aries32964@yahoo.com

2/21/02 Hi! I just wonder if you know any Filipino community here in Austin??? Thanks:) Brigette

2/9/02 Your help would be very much appreciated. Christine Negrosa lives and works in Manila, the Philippines.  We are to be married later this year. I live near Little Rock, Arkansas, close to the Little Rock Air Force Base. Your help in assimilating the Filipine culture would be very much appreciated.  The sooner I can become acquainted with the culture, the customs, the people the better for Christine and me. I have not been able to find people or organizations in this area.  Perhaps you have some contacts, or information about people and or organizations in the central Arkansas area? Any help would be appreciated. thank you, John R. Outler, Jr.

1/14/02 My name is Steve Garrett. My fiancee is from Lubao, Pampanga. I am in the Air Force Reserve and was activated after Sept 11th. Before I left she was teaching me some Tagalog and a little kapampangan (don't know if I spelled that correctly but it is phonetic anyway).... By the way, we are from Ft Worth. I can't believe that I came halfway around the world and found a group that we may be interested in that looks to be based almost in our home town. Thank you for your help.

1/14/02 Happy to read your website about Pinoys in Texas!  Keep up the good work, would like to see news in the Houston area.  My name Ed Perez and my family and I are here on the island of Guam. There many Filipinos here, and we saw your article on Eddie Mesa's program at some Filipino churches there in Texas. We have had the privilege of hearing Eddie's message in Carson California and again in Houston TX., do you happen to have an email or a contact number so that we can get in touch with him about coming to Guam and doing his show here?  The Filipino community would love it here so much and he could reach so many with this message.

1/3/02 - I'm Filipino staying in Japan and I'm looking for a good friend of mine, the last time I heard that she is staying in San Antonio Texas and her name is Madonna Garcia, she  is actually from Villamor Air Base in Pasay City. Hello! Ray, I love your article. It is true that the suppressives, like the people who covertly plan their heinous acts on September 11 despise to see people flourish and prosper like Americans or even an ordinary individual. In this time of suppression, the only solution is to FLOURISH AND PROSPER!  -  Nina Tan

We are saddened by the passing away of Dean Amando Isip. We offer our prayers and condolences. We give his family our wholehearted support. kaba-bayans,
9/13/01 fyi... Tom Brokaw made some comments last night that made me upset and extremely concerned. At one point during his nightly news commentaries at
approximately 8.30PM last night, he mentioned that one of the countries in Asia, the Philippines is a friend of extremist muslim terrorists Bin Laden. This short comment can be dangerous to all Filipino communities around the US and around the world. Just something to be aware of and think about.  I sent Mr. Brokaw an e-mail last night as soon as I can to get the record
straight. Hopefully he will no longer generalize the entire Philippines as a cohort of muslim terrorists. My message here is let's use all resources available to make sure we as peace loving people are not exposed to any danger. Let's be extra aware of our surroundings !  best regards, lakay leno

I have been trying to find Filipino organizations in Lubbock, Texas and so far have met with negative results. So here I am send a call of help. 9/4/01 Greetings from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB). My name is Carolyn Tuscano and I am a transfer student from California State University of Bakersfield (CSUB). I stumbled upon your page tonight in the hopes of trying to find Filipino organizations in Texas. And here I am trying to send a call of help because since I am originally from California and recently transfered to UMHB for their quality nursing program....I am homesick and was wondering if there was a filipino organization near the Killeen/Belton/Temple area. I miss the Filipino culture already. Its only been maybe 2 weeks but where I'm from, Pinoys/Pinays are numerous. I am even interested in starting an Asian club on campus because I come from a strong history of promoting and educating young college students about Filipino Culture. I was even privileged to have my name and school featured in U.S.Asia of Los Angeles, CA. I hope to hear from anyone because I am so in need of speaking tagalog to someone. ha! But unfortunately, I am not fluent. I understand the language but I am limited to answering "konti lang po." But I try. Well, this is my attempt to establish any contact with anyone and may God bless you all for doing such a good job in promoting Filipino culture in Texas.

Congratulations on a job well done! Your site has been a terrific way to provide crucial information about the Filipino Community! I enjoy checking out when I get a chance from time to time...  Thanks again, Michelle Santos

I found your site as I was searching through the web. I didn't realize there is such a large community of Pinoys in this area (East Plano). I have relocated from Chicago, where neighborhoods were considered "Little Manila". I miss walking into a Filipino store and hearing our language.Your site is informative and funny. My husband is not Filipino and he just doesn't understand why I miss "Being Pinoy". Thank you for your site and good luck in your objectives for the coming year! Sincerely, Carmen

Hello! I am searching for a young woman by the name of Menchie dela Cruz, who used to live in Marikina Heights, Philippines. I noticed there is someone in your organization by the name of Menchi Cruz. Is this the same person? Please let me know. Thanks! GEORGE ESTRADA

I check out your PinoyTexas website whenever I can, just to find out what's going on in Dallas and vicinity. Happy to hear you're all doing well, and that your website is providing a positive influence and service to a lot of Pinoys, in Texas and elsewhere. Downright Pinoy has again been active in the Festival and Fiesta circuit this year, as in the past five or six years, since we started in 94-95. And we hope to continue with our mission for many, many years to come. "It's Kool to be Brown, It's Kool to be Pinoy,,,,,Be Proud of It!" Peace and adobo grease!   Jolo Y. I am very happy to have known the pinoy texas web page. It was given to me by a friend. Lots of informations about Fil-Am events and activities. I would like to ask if you know where to get Philippine passport renewal form. I have seen in your web page the procedure in applying for one but haven't seen where to get it. Is it through the Phil embassy in LA? Thanks in advance and more power to Pinoy web page. I am now a regular visitor of this page.    - Albert

It's only tonight that I got a chance to browse through this website. I read most of Ray's articles and I can only agree with all his descriptions and impressions of a typical pinoy. My 20 years spent in Australia gave me a good chance to associate with different types of pinoys though to a very limited degree, but stories from friends' experiences specially those who are active in organizations, would fit Ray's analysis of the pinoy mentality. Oh well, that makes us a distinct race among the Orientals.

The activities of the Dallas community is very similar to the Pinoy community downunder except for the seemingly close relationship of the catholics and the protestants in TX. We have a few baptists, presbyterians, methodists and united anglican pinoys in our community but the iglesia ni
cristo and born again christians have big membership in Sydney. They attend catholic fiestas but rarely do we have joint religious activities with them. Fiesta in Sydney is caridad style. The suburbs sponsoring the fiesta
divide the residents into zones and we get assigned menus for each zone. Can you imagine catering for over a thousand people from all over Sydney and surrounding states? People come by bus loads...... Thelma A.B. from New Jersey

Congratulations on your anniversary. I'm so proud of your statement about the word "Pinoy". I totally agree with you on stating that your stand is to prove that Pinoy's do have that "dugong-Texas" not just because we are here in this state. I'm married to a Texan, but I don't consider myself a Filipino-American I'm a Pinoy.
On the matter of business by and among Pinoys... I can see a lot of changes. It just needs one to initiate the move, and Filipinos being "copy-cats" they'll follow. They don't want to take the risks, rather watch other enterprising people do it, then when it's proven successful, go ahead and imitate. The high's of this method is that it impedes the growth of the initiator, since the healthy competition has provoked having the special market sliced. Low's of it is that the presence of competition motivates other Pinoys to follow suit, and to beat competition... excel and improve. During this growth process, everybody learns, knows which avenues to taper, concentrate on what to specialize on... then, achieve a high rate of success on this endeavor. I initiated a grouping of companies last year. There were lots of obstacles when I started it, reports to the Secretary of State, Board of Accountancy, Board of Engineering... but we weeded it all out. My partners' goal and mine was to establish a business for the next generation... not for us. The upcoming Pinoy's need to have a change of image - not everyone a worker, but someone hiring workers. There should be lots of Natori's and Lewises in the States, not just scared copy-cats who venture more to destroy their fellow Pinoys rather than spend time developing their businesses. ...Making mistakes and being corrected in the world of business should be treated with a different attitude... accepting the pain and objectively analyzing the reason for a comment... for a memorandum... for a public rebuke... for a secret statement: There is a message there: you are being asked to walk into a room of improvement. Swallowing the pain in the chest but bravely walking into it, educating yourself and getting out of that room learned. Then you can fight, but with no egoistic inuendos or sarcastic rebuttals... .Again my congratulations, count my companies in to help you. TARLACCCS2

Your web site has been a tremendous help for us in finding our ways within the Filipino Community in Texas. We are very new in the McKinney area and so far we have been very pleased and happy with the people that we have met and filipino gatherings that we have attended. It is always nice to find that you have "kababayans" around that you can call on help someday. Again thank you and more power to your organization.
