| The people of Amparo Subdivision lived a good, middle-class life except for one minor problem- in their midst was a slum enclave where 48 families suffered abject misery due to lack of basic amenities for a decent life. | Instead of shunning them, neighboring villages decided to help. Together with the poor residents, they built roads, a canal system, a bridge, stairways, houses, a clinic, a school, a multi-purpose covered court and set up programs for education, health and livelihood. |

| With a strong Kapitbahayan (neighborhood assocaition) in place, the spirit of Bayanihan (cooperation) now throbs in the area. | The poor have gained confidence and now aspire for a better quality of life. |
