Health Care Jobs Continue to Grow Hospitals employed 4,228,100 people n July, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics–almost 1,000 people more than in June and 68,500 more than in July 2002. The bureau also noted in its monthly report that nursing and resident care facilities employed 2,784,800 people in July which was down almost 6,000 from June but still up by 44,000 from a year ago. Other health employers that made gains were physicians’ offices, which had 2,056,400 workers in July, an increase of 5,000 workers from last month, and home health care service companies, which employed 713,500 people, compared to 710,100 in June. Overall, the health care and social assistance industries provided jobs for 13,819,500 people in July, a slight increase from 13,817,600 in June. A year ago, those industries employed 13,531,900 people, an increase of 287,600.
