Question: I arrived from the Philippines one year ago. I still have no job. Even a clerical job would be fine for me. Nobody hires me because I have no office experience. How can I get experience if nobody hires me? PinoyTexas: It is not that difficult to get experience. Go to a hospital, a school or a community service center and work as a volunteer. You can take two volunteer jobs at half day each After you do this everyday for two months, start looking but keep the volunteer job until you get hired. You may think volunteering is not for you because you need the money. But think of it this way – if you don’t do volunteer work, you might be unemployed for another year. Remember the saying, “You reap what you sow.” |
