Career Tips: An increasing number of dot.com companies are closing shop. Does this mean my studies of internet technologies are wasted or obsolete? PinoyTexas: Not all internet support technicians still make a lot more money than most workers. This trend will continue although more dotcoms are expected to close shops. Dotcoms are failing not because demand for internet is fading. They are failing mostly for lack of profit. About 75% of dotcoms remain unprofitable even after years of operation. Regular companies, on the other hand, already knew how to make profit. They are using some of that profit to include the internet in their regular business. This explains why dotcoms are failing but salaries of internet experts are still rising.
