Question: I have been in my position for seven years. I have not been promoted despite adding a new college degree two years ago. Should I stay or should I move? PinoyTexas: You probably should move. But first talk to your manager about any possibility of promotion. If you get nothing but vague answer, start looking for a greener pasture. You should find ways to secure your investment in higher education. When you find a possible new job that you like and you received an offer, talk to your manager again. Do not say goodbye immediately. In the nicest way you can, say that you have found a new opportunity for career improvement. If they really want you to stay, they will make an offer. You can then choose to stay or go. No offer, just move. Keep in mind, it is very difficult and too risky to negotiate if you have no alternative. You have power if you have options. |
