Career Tip 4: Quicker Route to Promotion Question: For many years I have worked hard in my company hoping for a promotion. I have consistently worked 2-3 hours overtime everyday to prove my dedication. Is my overtime helping me in my objective to get promoted? PinoyTexas: Im sorry to disappoint you but working overtime does not count toward promotion. The biggest factor in promotion is how well you could handle more responsibilities. If you are always working overtime, you are perceived as lacking time management skills. Instead of always working overtime, focus your personal development on time management, leadership and salesmanship skills. Read books, attend seminars and, best of all, volunteer. Also, instead of working too hard, learn to relax and be creative. Those with happier disposition tend to get promoted over the overburdened workers. |
